Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Visited this place twice now and can't wait to return. The food is just so good. Chimichangas, flautas, quesadillas, etc. are all incredible! Their "special cheese sauce" is the best cheese sauce I've had. So good. the service has been good but not excellent - but both times we went it was a busy Saturday night. Their guacamole is really yummy but I'm spoiled by my husband who makes the best guac ever. He thinks theirs is better (how modest.) We will definitely be returning to Mezcal. Can't wait to try more things!

My boyfriend and I come here twice a week, every week. It is just too delicious! They are always busy around dinner time, but what great place isn't on a wait for dinner?? The service is fast and the drinks are amazing. They have great specials and happy hour prices. Our food is always hot and we've never had a problem with an order! Our favorites are the taco stand tacos, California burritos, and the guacamole! We bring all of friends and family, and now when they're in town, Mezcal is where they always want to go! We've also seen a couple Ravens enjoying lunch/dinner here, it's just that good!

I give this place 3.5 stars. I came here on my own after work for dinner on a Wednesday. Love the atmosphere - it's full Tex-Mex style with their beautiful deep, warm colored walls, Mexican looking paintings, sombreros on the wall, and lines of beer bibs on the ceiling. Drinks: Seems like their margaritas are good because a majority of the adults were drinking a margarita (and this was well after happy hour ended (which is from 4pm-6pm). I had their non-alcoholic horchata - I have had good Horchata only at a few restaurants and this was one of them. Price: Reasonable pricing for a Mexican place. Food: This is the only reason it didn't get 4 stars. The best part was the free chips and salsa at the beginning - really like the salsa. I also got the chicken fajitas ($14 for one person, $24 for 2). The chicken and vegetables on the pan were burnt (smelled burnt when it came out, tasted, and looked burnt). Customer Service: It was ok! Not bad - thanks!!

I was in the mood for some Mexican food and did not want chipotle ( although I am a huge fan of chipotle) I decided to try this place as I drive by it all the time but never thought about going in. At first glance inside was fairly spacious and getting a seat was fairly quick IF you decide to sit at the bar. If you want a table you may have to wait as this place tends to get packed fairly quickly. Once at the bar I ordered a cocktail and I was given chips and dip sauce. The cocktail was good but not great. The chips were good but I did not like the sauce so I opted for guacamole instead which tasted great. Be careful not to fill up on the chips and guacamole as its easy to do so and the guacamole is not free. I ordered chicken with some rice and beans and it was very good. the portions that was given were HUGE and I could not possibly finish my plate. I enjoyed my meal and time there.. I plan on returning if I am not in the mood to have chipotle.

The food is good. The service is good. I've had better, but I can easily see why they're highly rated.

Mezcal is a gem!!! If you want authentic Mexican food this is the place. The ingredients are all fresh and they give you plenty. The staff are very attentive to you and go out of their way to make sure your glasses stay filled. My family and I will continue to patronize Mezcal as this is a wonderful family atmosphere. Thanks Mezcal and keep up the great job!!!

I like the house margaritas here.. The best thing on the menu is the made at your table guacamole. The food isn't bad but it's not great. I had fajitas and the steak was dry and flavorless. Now I just get chicken and shrimp fajitas Queso dip is decent. Chips and salsa are good. They have hot salsa. But you have to ask for it 3 times like it's a secret. Its good. Just ask for it 3 times in a row. Haha. I've been solo and with a group more than once so I have tried a good amount of items on the menu. For the location it's a go to. Buy if you can make it elsewhere do it. Half price appetizers at happy hour. And daily drink specials. Download the app for a free appetizer. The app used to send way too many alerts, but I think someone complained so it's better now.

The food and service was absolutely wonderful. Portion sizes were huge and also great atmosphere to dine in. My wife and I truly enjoyed ourselves with these big margaritas for only $4. Very flavorful and yummy.

I can say this place is better than don pablos which isnt saying a whole lot but still an upgrade. The food is your standard mexican fare but I think they are skimping on some ingredients like the beef and cheese which I would think are important since they make up the majority of dishes on the menu. I had a burrito and the beef was like taco bell and the cheese that came with the queso was questionable The boo had to send his mesl back because he asked for chicken wiyh everything. Chicken taco chicken quesadilla etc. What he got was beef everything smh. The nachos were nice they were filling enough that I had to take most of my meal home. And the tres letches cake was moist. Id say come sit at the bar as the sangria was great while we watched the game but you dont need to worry about straying doe the appetizers

My wife and I love Mexican restaurants and will try them whenever we are in a new area, MezCal lives up to our highest expectations. Their pacific blue margarita was perfectly mixed, and the special for the night so it was a huge hit! Their fajita salad was the perfect blend of fresh vegetables and grilled. And my wife's shrimp and rice dish had her talking about it all night. We highly recommend MezCal for the casual restaurant goer or the seasoned Mexican restaurant connoisseur!
(5)G C.
The service was great. The chips and salsa were tasty. My chicken fajitas meal was bland.

Update: we visit here at least twice a month. I enjoy sitting at the bar and have had the queso fundido several times. It's not Mari Luna, but it's good and I am enjoying the atmosphere more. I've had many things on the menu. I enjoy the tacos el pastor. I had the enchiladas supreme ($9.99) which doesn't compare the same dish at Mari Luna. It was covered with shredded lettuce and topped with sour cream. The Mexican Mama was good, but not worth the $10 for the amount that was served. (It's $8 now). We then ordered dessert - churros and sopapillas. Both typically served . We'll be back since it's in our hood. Good atmosphere.
(5)Gwen M.
Been here multiple times. Always good service and good food. Food ready quick! It gets busy on the weekends so be prepared to wait if it is a Friday or Saturday night. They always have coupons out through the mail valu packs or magazine flyers so be on the look out for them if you are local (10-15% off meal or free app if you spend a certain amount).
(5)Paul T.
Food is excellent and it's a great place !! This is one of the best Mexican restaurants in the area! Great specials everyday! Happy hour is amazing and the staff is so nice and helpful always!! i go at least once a month and have never had anything I didn't enjoy!! If your looking for great food and drinks for a good price, this is your place!!

Not much to say that hasn't already been said but GUAC, GUAC, GUACGUAC, GUAC GUAC....EVERYBODAYYYY! The homemade guac here is tremendous stupendous stupid delicious! I've been several places that make it in your face but something about their special seasoning sets Mezcal's mixture off just right. There's great drink specials on margaritas and sangria nightly so either call ahead or go and make note for next time because the guacamole is enough to go back. Here's a bonus to go: if you download the mobile app you get half off an appetizer! That would be my only reason for going back however. As a vegan, there weren't many options for me. But, Ray R (you ask) why not grab a side of rice and beans? Well my friend, that'd be because the rice is cooked in chicken broth and contrary to some people's view on Vegs, we aren't content with eating big bowls of beans. The other veg options were way too expensive for there not to be any protein alternatives in them. I shouldn't be paying over $10 for a fajita full of beans, onions and peppers. Service wise, you're always greeted by a smile and/or nod no matter which staff member you encounter. The wait staff can be a bit absent minded, either that or confused on who is supposed to provide seated guests with plates, napkins and silverware because we asked three different people for each item.
(4)Jamie C.
When my husband and I moved to the area, we decided to dedicate some time finding our "go to" restaurants. We decided to go to Mezcal, based on the stellar reviews here. We've been back countless times since. It is DELICIOUS EVERY TIME! We've taken family and friends and everyone has always been just as pleased. If you go in the evening, except a wait to be seated. Once you are seated, service is prompt. The drinks are great also! I really cannot speak highly enough about this place!
(5)Jade A.
I have tried this place twice and a few months apart. The first time was for lunch and while the complimentary chips and salsa were okay, the rest of the food weren't. I got the flautas and some tacos and they were both awful. They were tasteless and I felt like Taco Bell could've done better. So the next time I felt like I had to give this place another try just in case it was just a bad batch or whatever. Sadly, it was the same thing. Everything was so bland and a lot of the ingredients are obviously canned stuff. The jalapeños for example, were so pale and soggy and looked like they've been swimming in canned water for ages. I absolutely wouldn't recommend this place to anyone who likes good food.
(1)David D.
Best deal seems to be the combination platters of two items + two sides etc. You get basically lunch and dinner for $12 if you do three items and two sides. Food is average. Service is not good. On a medium busy night I was refilled just once and service attitude was indifferent. When asked waiter to pack my food she gave me a box to fill myself and didn't bother giving me a plastic bag, which I had to walk to the waiting area to get myself. Things like this make a restaurant with mediocre food go from okay to no-go pretty quick.
(2)Heather C.
My parents love this Mexican restaurant and always drag me here when I'm in town for a while. The food is decent, but definitely not the best Mexican food I've had. The margaritas are good and they have a wide selection of tequilas and flavors. They make most of their dishes with corn tortillas, which I don't like, but the meat and sauces are good. the service is also good and they usually have weekly coupons available. I would give this place three stars, except the potato enchiladas earn the fourth star. I've never seen potato as a filling option before, so I recently tried it. Was easily the best thing on the menu.
(4)Ariana F.
This food is like DAMN. Everything here is guaranteed to have you leaving happy and full! The waitstaff keeps conversation nice and simple and my food always comes out hot and quickly. The atmosphere is cute and the happy hour here is definitely good enough to get someone to visit who hasn't before. All Hail Mezcal!
(5)Tim G.
The food was excellent, the drinks were strong, and the atmosphere was very nice. The guacamole was delicious, fresh and prepared table-side which was a nice touch. The burrito and enchiladas were very good. I didn't really care for the poblano cheddar soup but I don't expect to like everything a restaurant serves. My wife liked it which I was happy about. The service was just ok and they got my order wrong; I ordered steak in my burrito and I got chicken instead but it still tasted great. We will definitely be going back for more.

My boyfriend and I were running errands in the area when hunger struck. While deciding where to eat, I happened to remember Mezcal (yay positive Yelp reviews!) and suggested we check it out. I am SO glad I did! We went went on a Saturday night around 10 and there was still a decent crowd. We were seated right away. The service was fast and our waiter was friendly. The complimentary chips were fresh, and the salsa was really good! It seemed to have a hint of barbecue flavor. For drinks, I got the Corona-rita and my boyfriend got a drink called "The Cantarita" (it came in a small clay vase which was awesome). Both were very good, and the prices were reasonable for the drinks. For food, I got the Carnitas Chimichanga, and my boyfriend got the Carnitas Nachos. Oh my goodness, they were delicious! The pork was so tender it fell apart when you picked it up, and it was flavored so well. The cheese sauce that was poured over my chimichanga and my boyfriend's nachos was tasty too. I ate way more than I needed to because I couldn't stop! For dessert, we shared a piece of tres leches cake, and surprise surprise, that was also good! We enjoyed our meal so much, we were tempted to go back for dinner the next day. I'm so happy to have Mezcal in the area, and can't wait to return!

Having been to Mariluna and La Tolteca recently, I was happy that the interior was clean, and tables were large and well-spaced. Booths were comfy. The guacamole tasted fresh and was good. I got the veggie quesadilla, which, while not what I expected (not the Mexican grilled cheese that is usual), was very good. It was a toasted tortilla overstuffed with squash, onions, peppers, and mushrooms. I guess there had to be cheese in there too? Anyway, the veggies had a nice cast iron char on them, like fajita veggies. The rice was good; Mexican rice isn't really my thing. The menu was really large and there are lots of combinations you can make. The service was friendly and attentive and it was cheap.

I've been here a few times for lunch with coworkers and enjoyed lunch. I've also been for happy hour and they had a mariachi band playing. Went recently and noticed they had a whole new menu! Tried the El Favorito and it was delicious!! Also the Holy Guacamole is very good and the margaritas are great!! Everything is fresh and the atmosphere is good. I've had great service every time.

This place was great! I only have an hour lunch break, but my boyfriend and I wanted to meet up for a lunch date. We picked this place based on the reviews and his love of Mexican food. It was the right decision! Their queso was on point, the chips were great (not dry or tasteless like other tortilla chips). The salsa that comes with the free chips is a little bland, but still fine. Our entrees were spectacular (I got the fajita quesadilla with chicken, he got the fajita quesadilla with beef). Whatever kind of cheese they use in the quesadillas made everything delectable. My favorite part though, however, was the fact nothing was overly greasy or messy, like other "Mexican" restaurants. The food was served simply perfectly. Service was also very quick, so we were able to eat and enjoy ourselves within my hour break. The lunch menu was also very modestly priced! For its location, it doesn't look like it would be as good as it is, but it certainly impresses. I definitely hope to return for dinner soon. :D

Who would have thought that you could find a decent Mexican restaurant tucked into a strip mall in Owings Mills?!* The service and atmosphere are lovely. The table side prepared guacamole was fun and while not the best I've had, it was a fun addition to our meal. My husband got a dish that was AMAZING - pork and pineapple (don't judge) tacos. Extremely tasty and tender. I couldn't decide so I got the Mezcal sampler. What a lot of food! It was another meal for us both the next day there was so much food! Unless we find a comparable Mexican style restaurant here in Annapolis, we'll be back for sure!

Mezcal was a really nice surprise in the middle of what I would consider "nowhere" - at least for me. The husband and I felt the urge to go out and explore a little in places that we're not quite as "used to", so we headed over to our gym to work out (they have a location in Reisterstown) and then we were going to go to Columbia Mall to explore. Unfortunately, the tragedy at the mall happened that very morning, so our plans were understandably put on hold. We decided to head home instead, but we were pretty hungry after working out, so we Yelped to find a decent Mexican joint nearby. Mezcal was the first option that came up. It's located in a little shopping center nearby the Owings Mills Best Buy, not exactly in a prime spot and certainly nowhere I would have ever stopped. However, the joke would have been on us if we hadn't, because this place has some damned good Tex-Mex. I still wouldn't call this "authentic", exactly, but it's great for what it is. Sweet Husband Mine and I ordered a "build your own combo" plate - three main items and one side (they have others that you can mix and match). I decided on a chicken burrito, a mushroom quesadilla, and a pork taco (with chili con queso as the side dish). I can't remember what SHM had for his main meal - it was similar - but he tried a "spirit-free" strawberry margarita that was, quite simply, not of this earth. Really sweet and tart and it sure TASTED like alcohol, even if it wasn't present. You get complimentary chips and salsa before your meal arrives. Our chips were fresh and HOT!, and the salsa was on point (though, for me, it could have been a little spicier - no worries, slap some Cholula on those bad boys and you're good to go). They will refill the bowl as much as you want. When the food came - my word, it was good, that's all I can say. The chicken burrito was great (though not overstuffed, which is a plus in my view), and the taco was pretty good (you can order that as a 'soft' or 'hard shell', I chose hard). But what blew my mind was the mushroom quesadilla. Oh, man. All that I can say is mushrooms + melty cheese + tortilla = heaven on a plate. HEAVEN!!! I wish I'd ordered two more, they were just that good. The chili con queso was cheesy and drippy and utterly delicious. We finished off with sopapillas - basically tortilla chips dusted liberally with cinnamon and chocolate and caramel and whipped cream. The perfect finish, if a little sweet. (SHM is the sweet addict in the family, so he naturally loved them!) We didn't have drinks, but the drink menu is EXTENSIVE. Jalapeno margaritas? Mezcal tequila? Dos Equis XX? Oh, my, yes. Service was really good. Our server was polite, pleasant and efficient without hovering or rushing. The manager came around as well and asked how everything was, which was a nice touch. Best of all - this meal was shockingly inexpensive. The bill came to 33 dollars, which is absolutely rock bottom for the quality of the food. I couldn't believe just how low the prices really were. I don't think they've been around for too long - the place looked new on the inside - but with food this good and prices this low, it won't be a secret for long. The restaurant was actually pretty brisk on the afternoon we came in. I did visit the ladies' room - the hot pink and green walls may throw you off a touch (it did me), but it's hardly enough to detract. The restrooms are very clean. We don't get out to Owings Mills very much, but we may have a reason to start now. Do NOT miss Mezcal if you're in the area!
(5)Niran A.
I judge a Mexican restaurant by authenticity and it's minimal gringo influence. While the food is good at Mezcal, it's your pretty typical menu of deep fried offerings topped with melted cheese - which is pretty gringo. The restaurant is pretty nice inside, and makes you feel welcome and intrigued by its multitude of colors and stone like textures. The bar has an attractive look and offers good drinks with a variety of tequilas. When I dined there we ordered the table side prepared guacamole which was pretty mediocre. I asked for no garlic powder, which they had a difficult time accommodating because the garlic powder is mixed with the salt. The overall taste was fine, but certainly not as good as something that can be prepared at home. I ordered the pork ribs which were a generous portion of 4 rib pieces and a side of rice and beans with pico de gallo, sour cream and guac. The sauce tasted more of BBQ sauce then anything of Mexican influence but it was still good and the meat was tender. I don't think I would order this particular dish again though. The tamale and tacos were also decent, but the whole time I was wishing I had ordered one of the fajita options - oh well. The menu does have a lot of options, so I am willing to go back and give this place another shot.

Came here for the first time today. Got seated immediately. Friendly service & clean. Our server was great- shout out to Adam! Ordered steak and chirizo tacos and my boyfriend ordered the fish tacos, both were delicious! The tacos are very filling, we were stuffed. Once we got to the second taco, we both had to doggie bag the last one. We'll definitely be coming back. Nice place to go to in owings mills.
(4)Jimmy S.
This is going to be my new favorite Mexican restaurant. I had the beef chimichanga with cheese sauce amazing.
(5)Josh C.
In the area, there is no better Mexican restaurant. We have been here many times and have ordered just about everything off the menu. We have never once had a bad experience here in terms of food or service. Sometimes there is a wait for a table, but it is well worth it. The kids love this place. My recommendations are the queso con carne appetizer and the carnitas chimichanga along with a mojito. But based on my experience, you'll be happy with whatever you order. There is a bar area with TVs, and because the food is so good we'll usually choose this place over a sports bar if we go out to watch an Orioles game.
(5)Nisha G.
The guac here is amazing. I love that they make it in front of you ordered to your liking. Seriously it was probably the freshest guac Also the combination entrees are great on the wallet. There are plenty of margarita and mojito concoctions you're bound to find something you like.
(4)Jennifer B.
We went here for lunch and really enjoyed it. The salsa they brought out was really tasteful and they gave you as much as you wanted. I had a blue margarita on rocks and a steak platter. The steak was pretty tender and came with rice, pico, guacamole and lettuce. My fiancé had a burrito which was quite large Andy steak was a good portion as well. We did not try the guacamole but there was a lot of positive feedback on yelp about it so maybe try next visit.
(4)Jerry C.
First time here and the service was great and friendly. Margarita was great and the fresh made guac at the table was yummy. We came for apps but the dishes that came around us smelled great and portioned well. Give this place a try. If you download there app you can get a 1/2 price app.
(5)Julia C.
I have been to this place many times since it opened. Great food, fresh ingredient friendly staff. Oh did I mention the fresh and free chips and salsa?? I have ordered fish taco, build your own combo, and recently ordered fajita quesadilla. The fried little chucks of fish is placed nicely in your taco with some salsa, lemon juice. The flavor is great. Fajita quesadilla (I choose to have steak) was huge and came with some rice, small guacamole salad. The steak was grilled with some caramelized onions and pepper bells, delicious! I had more food then I could eat for dinner so I took the rest home and ate the next for lunch.
(4)G H.
This was my second time hear in a week. The food was full of flavor. Try the holly guacamole . The service was good not great. The food came out pretty quick on both occasion. My favorite place for Latin American food in Owning mills.
(4)Lauren S.
I came last night for dinner with two of my girlfriends and we loved it. The wait was worth it. I got vegetarian rellenos and I loved it. Everything tasted fresh, well prepared, and just good. Our drinks weren't too strong, which is fantastic. Nothing sucks more than getting a waaaay too strong drink to go with a perfect dinner. Service was fast and prompt, and everyone was polite. I will be back!
(5)Shari W.
I love this place. ALWAYS great customer service and friendly staff. ALWAYS fresh food. And ALWAYS delicious food. The vibe is great. It's relaxed. TV to watch the games and good music to enjoy. Every time I go here I leave full. If you've never been here before I seriously suggest you to go!!!
(5)Jordan C.
I went there tonight for dinner, very good Mexican food. They made the guacamole in front of you, Very good! I had the sampler platter with was a sample of pretty much everything, Very good, very filling! Service was very good, everyone was very friendly The prices are pretty good. If you looking for real Mexican Food in the area I would recommend them.

4/28/14 This is actually my second time to this new Mexican restaurant in my area. I forgot to write up a review for the first time, but I pretty much got the same thing and had a great experience so here we go....... I am not too crazy about chain restaurant Mexican food and I was excited to try this place out when my sister told me about it the first time in Feb. This go round my boyfriend was in town from California and he is a hard one to please when it comes to Mexican food. It is so fresh and authentic out in Cali so he can be hard to please. This place is located in one of the shopping centers near my place that houses a Giant grocery and many other businesses. So the parking lot is busy and regularly full the times I have come there, but I was able to find a good spot close to the restaurant. The décor is very Mexican to say the least (no offense). The hostess is always very friendly and shows us to our booth where my boyfriend had a friend he wanted to catch up with was waiting. They waitress had already supplied complimentary chips and salsa to the table already. The booths are very comfy and roomy. The waitress Joslyn (I think) and her trainee came right on over to greet us and take our drink orders. We all got a round of the sangria margaritas!! SO YUMMMM!!! I got my first one frozen which gave me serious brain freeze but I got it on the rocks the second round. The boo liked it and he is a straight tequila drinker so good start. For an appetizer we ordered the holy guacamole. My boyfriend was impressed and liked that they have someone come out and make it fresh to your liking in front of the group. Slowly winning him over at this point. The guacamole was so good and an awesome start to our meal. I ordered from the build your own combo menu. I got the chicken quesadilla, burrito, and enchilada, which comes with a side. I ordered the guacamole salad. The boo got the Mojarra Frita, which is the whole tilapia fish seasoned and fried served with rice and pico de galo. Both dishes were AMAZING! Things to take note on: -the guacamole salad is just a salad that they put some guacamole on, still good but very simple. I guess I expected something else. -the whole fish dish is super yum. Just not enough meat on the fish so you feel like you are longing for more. When this normally done it is a meatier fish. We also got the Molcajete Cabo which is marinated shrimp and scallops grilled with peppers, onions, and tomatoes topped with a pineapple-ranchero sauce and grated cheese served with warm tortillas. This was also delicious. My boyfriend said at the end of our meal that this is going on his list of places to eat when he is in town again. He loved it and I was glad! Hard to please the foodie sometimes lol I.....I mean WE will definitely be back! The staff, food, and drinks are amazing! Why wouldn't we!!!
(5)Karen H.
Absolutely FABULOUS food and an excellent wait staff! The food is always fresh, piping hot and flavorful! The variety of fajitas is great. Pick your combo you can't go wrong. The drink selection is exotic and grants you a taste of Mexico in Owings Mills. Try the mango mojito delish!
(5)Stephanie F.
My favorite Mexican place in Owings Mills! Great service, great drinks, and the Holy Guacamole is awesome! The price isn't near either. I took my best friends when they came to visit and they wanted to go back the next day!
(5)Deanna S.
Highly enjoyable, especially the made-at-table guacamole and the Mexican spiced shrimp. I appreciate that you can get your filling wrapped in lettuce rather than taco shell.
(4)Sterling M.
Great vibe, food and band last night. Looking for to coming again. Come early and leave late!
(5)Mel I.
Wow. Fish tacos. Chips. Salsa. Margaritas. What more could u ask for. All delicious and perfectly done. Bar and restaurant was PACKED!! Note to owners. You have outgrown this space. You need to move to a bigger location. I managed to get a seat at the bar this past Friday after trying to get into the restaurant for 2 Fridays in a row. 2 weeks ago it was so packed I just turned around and left. Last week there was a 1 hr 10 min wait at 6 on a Friday night. When I left this Friday there were so many people that it was people and families standing at the back of my chair at the bar because the waiting area was full. It was crazy. PLEASE MOVE TO BIGGER PLACE. You guys are just too awesome to be stuck in a strip mall
(5)Jonathan J.
An amazing gem tucked away in Owings Mils. Food, service and atmosphere is excellent. Genuine Mexican with a solid full bar. You must have the table side prepared guacamole! Great for families or a quick after work happy hour.

We were SO excited to get a Mexican restaurant in the neighborhood and this place does not disappoint. We've been here with friends and with our kids. The food is flavorful and well presented. The atmosphere is inviting. I tried the marshmallow margarita a few visits ago and it's my new favorite. It had an orange flavor with a very mellow finish. Delicious! The service is fast even in busy nights. If you haven't tried this place yet, you should.

I went to the restaurant about 2 months ago with my daughter. We went on a Thursday around 5:30 pm. I was immediately greeted when I walked in & we were seated quickly. Our waiter was friendly & attentive. As far as the food goes, that's where I give it 2 stars. I had ordered the seafood chimichanga, it was just OK . My daughter had the chicken strips with rice, she barely touched it. I ordered my husband the a shrimp dish with rice (forgot what's it was called) & he said it was OK.

Love the chips that they give you when you sit down. Trying the holy guacamole is a must!! I love the chipotle pork wings as that is what I normally get. I have tried the fajitas that were awesome as well. I have never left here unhappy or still hungry- and the prices are not bad either!

So the gals say, let's stop by and try this new spot for Mexican. I'm always up to try something new. Location: In Owings Mills, in the same shopping center as I believe a Giant, Weight Watchers, Starbucks....there is a small sign, I can't say it is that easy to spot from the road. Parking is ample. Ambiance: Interior is nice, comfy booths, loved the decor on the walls. Nice sized bar, with several tvs. Food: Appetizer, the holy guacamole. It was a pretty cool to see them actually make the guac in your face. Now, regarding the taste, I prefer my guac to have a little more salt and some more acid. I added it and I was fine with it. Regarding my meal, I got the build your own. This option comes with several choices of entrees and sides. I choose the beef tip quesadilla, chicken tamale, rice and charros. The charro is basically black beans with some sazon and bacon. I must admit, I wasn't pleased too much with the tamale. I have definitely had better, the rice was a little dry, the beans were divine. The quesadilla was good, I'm think that the beef was the star. That chicken was just meh. Service: Our server was nice, I wish she was a little bit more attentive. Bottom line: The prices are fair for the amount of food that you get, but IMHO the food is average at best. I would like to come back and try the HH. The better question is, can they make a good margarita? Hmmmm....

I grew up in Owings Mills and I have fond memories of Saint Thomas shopping center...so when I heard a Mexican restaurant took over the old Chinese food restaurant, I was beyond THRILLED. Then I read the Yelp reviews and got even more excited.. could this finally be it? The Mexican restaurant in my hometown that I've been waiting for over the last 30 years? Perhaps my hopes were too high but I definitely had a bad experience when I came here on Friday. Our waiter was a young kid who although being very friendly, had no idea what he was doing at all! He did nothing right. We started with the Sangria which was atrociously bad. Proceeded on to the homemade guacamole, which was very tasty and the best thing I ate all night. Now the entrees... The other three patrons I dined with that evening all ordered shrimp dishes, which they seemed to enjoy. However, my "Matador Steak" came out way too rare (I ordered it medium). It was missing the ranchero sauce too. So when I told the waiter he took the steak back. About 10 minutes later it came back out sizzling and charred. The inside was actually cooked fine but the steak just tasted like smoke. It was also way too hot too serve a patron but I didn't complain because I wanted to eat my meal with everyone else. The steak was missing its sauce again as well. The actual cut of meat I received was nice and lean but it was completely flavorless and destroyed by the smoke. Also, I ordered the charro beans but got baked beans instead. Another major issue was the fact that the bathrooms were unclean and I saw waiters eating chips with their hands out of the same bin they were pulling from and serving to the table. I'm sure this kind of stuff happens everywhere but I just didn't want to see it. I think I'll give Mezcal another shot simply because everyone else had a decent meal and I went on a very busy Friday night.

My favorite place for a Mexican dinner date with my hubby....quiet, dark, romantic. The table side guacamole and mojitos are the best!!
(5)Bethany B.
Fantastic mexican and great service! We went today for lunch and very much enjoyed our experience. Service: Our waitress was quick, courteous, and answered our questions in a confident manner. Apps/Drinks: The salsa appeared to be very thin, but was actually a great consistency. It started off sweet then got some heat on the end. The chips were warm and crispy. We ordered the guacamole dip (not the table side guac) and it was nice and creamy. The house margaritas were great, but I'm glad I ordered the regular, and not the fishbowl, because they definitely do a generous pour! Entrees: My mom ordered the beef fajitas which came with a ton of veggies, rice, refried beans, the usual lettuce/tomatos/sour cream/guac, and delicious tortillas (seriously - we ate the tortillas all by their selves they were so good). I had the arroz con pollo and it was very delicious - tons of veggies and a good amount of cheese sauce, but it wasn't at all drowned by the cheese sauce. We will definitely be returning to Mezcal in the near future.
(5)Chris P.
Before going I saw a couple reviews that said the food was blann so I didn't expect much but I was pleasantly surprised. I had the Diabla tacos which is Steak and Chorizo and it had a great flavor with a good amount of kick. I really enjoyed it. Also the sangria margaritas margarita was amazing. I would defiantly go back.
(4)Gary R.
Margaritas are always good. They have drink specials every day of the week...including the weekend! Service is fast and your food comes out quick. Fresh guacamole made at your table is always good.
(5)Meredith N.
Great service, great food, great atmosphere. My husband and I stopped in for lunch and absolutely loved it. I ordered a few things differently than what was on the menu and our bartender/server was more than accommodating (and so was the kitchen). The holy guacamole is wonderful-- and there's nothing better than having them make it right in front of you. Highly recommend!
(5)Amy K.
Mezcal is one of my favorite local restaurants. Either for lunch or dinner, they never dissapoint. Their food is always fresh, colorful, and flavorful. The chips and salsa they make in house daily are addictive! I have so many dishes I love on the menu, I can't really even name one, but I will say the Fajitas for two is such a great deal. We always end up bringing some delicious leftovers home when we have them. Don't expect a typical tex mex menu here, it is far more thoughtful and creative. Mezcal is definitely a place to try if you haven't been.
(5)Angel S.
Needed a very quick lunch before a performance; didn't want fast food. This was in a strip mall, way on the end. Once inside, we were promptly greeted and had chips and salsa with two margaritas in minutes we split a chimmy and a burrito, both excellent. Fresh tomatoes, cilantro, with a very smooth cheese sauce topped the entrees. Very tasty, good value and we made our show in time. Thanks!
(5)Rick S.
The best Mexican place in the Owings Mills/Reisterstown area. They food is always good and the service is also A+ quality. I usually get the nachos for lunch or dinner as my entree. Those nachos are huge and are well worth it. The guacamole bowl is also outstanding, highly recommend it. Any of the combos are also great. Never had a bad experience with it. They also mail to just about everyone in Maryland a 10-15 percent coupon. This makes it even more than reasonable for lunch and dinner. Give this place a try you will not regret it.
(5)K Y.
If I could give this place 10 stars I would. We always recommend Mezcal to our friends and family and is truly the best Mexican in the area. The Margaritas are large and refreshing, the chips and salsa are ALWAYS fresh, and the food is consistently on point. My favorite is the cheddar poblano soup and tacos al pastor. I have never been disappointed with anything I've ordered. My husband without fail always orders the California burrito even though he swears to order something different... He never does and I can't blame him, it's pretty amazing. Service is always friendly, but expect to wait a little when busy. It's worth it though.
(5)Nirmal K.
Went for lunch. Food was great , service was super fast and price very reasonable. Vegetable fajita were great value. I wish this was near my residence
(5)Rebecca F.
A great Mexican spot!!!!!! I love Mexican food, probably my favorite cuisine and since my favorite spot closed down in eldersburg I have been sad. This place came in and has made me back to happy! And it's closer in distance. All the dishes I have had are phenomenal. I am a big chimichanga fan and that was very good as well. I have gotten several appetizers and a are very yummy. I forgot this one but it's a cheese shrimp appetizer and was amazing!!!!!! A must go to!
(5)Nicole H.
the mexican mama beverage was not strong enough...ordered two piece of tres leche cake and they looked totally different...once had a caramel drizzle and the other one was plain..no consistency...the chicken chimichanga was delicious and plentiful..the enchilada suiza was fabulous but should have come with the guacamole salad on the side...chicken quesadilla was plentiful..will go back and try some other dishes...good food..not great...decent mexican but did not feel authentic authentic...comprendes?
(3)Kayla K.
Moved into town and this was one of the first places we went too! It was a half hour wait or so but completely worth it. Holy guacamole is a must! With some strawberry margaritas and chimichangas wish I had room for dessert!! Will 10000 times go again.
(5)Ashley B.
The food was amazing! Everything we ordered was fantastic. I will definitely come back!!!
(5)Jen A.
I ordered a lunch order to-go. I was pleasantly surprised to see a good amount of patrons in the restaurant at lunch time. I was greeted quickly. I ordered the two item combo and got a beef tip taco, chicken quesadilla, guacamole salad and pico de gallo salad as well as a cup of poblano cheese soup. The food arrived very quickly, took only 10 minutes! The cheese soup was nasty and bland and spicy all at the same time. Two spoonfuls and I threw it out. It was only $2.75 so not too upset at the waste. Because I had takeout, when I arrived to my destination the taco and quesadilla were mushy from steam that collected in the container. I would suggest punching a hole or two in the container to allow the air to escape OR better yet, eat at the restaurant. It had a nice atmosphere and if I had the time I would have sat down. Nonetheless they were still very tasty. It is certainly not their fault the food was mushy when I opened the package. I could tell it was due to the collected steam not the restaurant itself. The guacamole and pico de gallo salads were in one container and tasted really good as well. I mixed them together and had a first class salad! Both had a good amount of seasoning and spices. The takeout order also came with complimentary chips and salsa. The chips were hot and fresh. The salsa was really good and had a good amount of spice. The two item combo is a great value! It was a lot of food. I am stuffed and wish I could find somewhere to hide and take a nap. I will definitely go back and eat again but maybe no takeout anymore.
(3)Kasey C.
The chips and salsa are lack luster, but the arroz con pollo is smack-your-mom good. You'll be full, but compelled to eat until you hate yourself. Or maybe that's just me. Either way. Try a house frozen margarita while you're at it. They are delicious! If I would have been here on date night, I definitely would have had a second despite the $8 price tag. Though I'm pretty sure the hubs would have had to carry me out fireman-style which, I assume, would have been embarrassing for at least one of us.
(4)Denise G.
My roommate, partner and I went here on a whim one day. We ordered the chimichanga, the arroz con pollo and the enchiladas supreme for dinner, and the churros and tres leches cake for dessert. The food was amazing! Big portions, wonderful flavors, nothing was really too spicy but it was sooo filling.
(5)Stephanie D.
Very good food and awesome service I really enjoy coming and so happy they even have vegetarians options. The servers are very attentive, drinks are delish and portions are hefty! The color scheme is very bright and joyful and the decorations are very attractive. Very good asset to the neighborhood great place to enjoy yourself with family and friends.
(5)Sarah F.
Food was delicious, service was terrible. Will probably still give it another try.
(3)James H.
The place was very busy on a Friday evening, good for them. The staff were all extremely nice and attentive. Beer is cold, but selection is limited. Bar otherwise seems well stocked. We had nachos at the bar, and they were quite disappointing. There was an entire head of lettuce shredded and mixed in, and the meat tasted like canned chili or something. The seating was crowded and open, not very cozy. We wouldn't come here for dinner, but plan on giving it a shot for lunch just because the staff wers so awesome. Hopefully the nachos aren't representative of the entire menu.
(3)Colleen S.
We've been here a few times and sat at the bar and have been happy with the experience. The table side guacamole was really fresh and delicious (although I did have to add more lime and salt). The chicken quesadilla was really good too. They have lots of different margaritas which always makes for a fun time (my favorite so far has been the Sangriarita). Service could be a bit faster but everyone has always been friendly and accommodating. Overall it is pretty standard Mexican but done well with fresh ingredients. We will definitely be back!
(4)Cara L.
Favorite Mexican food in Baltimore! It looks unassuming in a strip center next to a gym, but the food and service is top notch. Our server Adam was great -- we got the holy guacamole (made at the table -- lots of lime and super fresh) and the fajitas Texanas for two (came out sizzling and was more than enough for two people -- leftovers for lunch tomorrow). Margaritas are big. Can't wait to go back.
(5)Chris A.
Highly recommended! Great food, great service, and prices don't put a hole in your wallet! This is a great place for date night too. They give you chips and dip to start the meal off and you can always ask for more. Great prices on beer and plentiful portions.
(5)Seth W.
Not sure what goes on in that kitchen, but they make some amazing food! Everything that I've ordered has come out just as I've expected it to, never a single problem, and everything has tasted far better than expected! The service is consistently fast and friendly, and there's a great lively atmosphere to make you feel welcome. This restaurant is a truly welcome addition to the bland and boring dining choices of the Owings Mills area!
(5)Alyssa C.
Margaritas are GREAT! This is the first place in the Reisterstown/Owings Mills area I've found to have good Mexican food and Margaritas- this is no Don Pablos! The atmosphere is inviting to any type of group- kids, adults, girls night, families- and the staff are friendly and happy! My one knock was on a busy night I ordered a chicken fajita and the chicken was so dry! I'm not usually picky about chicken but this was not the most pleasant. This had been my second visit to Mezcal and my previous experience had been great so I wrote it off as an off night and I'm glad I did! I have been back two times since and the food has been nothing but excellent!
(4)Mitchell N.
Everything is perfect about this place. The food, service, and happy hours are top notch. Would recommend to everybody!
(5)Brian S.
We are regulars at Mezcal now. Terrific Mexican food and this is coming from someone who lived in Las Vegas for many years and knows the real deal. Long lines almost every night attest to how good the food is. Wait staff is great and the managers alway stop by your table to make sure you are satisfied. Don't fill up on the awesome chips and salsa before you eat because the portions are huge. May seem pricey at first glance but you get two meals worth of food when you order one meal. Out of town guests request to go to Mezcal when they come to town and we are happy to take them there.
(5)Anna S.
I've tried Mezcal a few times and have always been pleased with the experience. Let's be honest - there's authentic Mexican food, which is hard to find, and there's authentic Tex Mex. Is Mezcal 100% authentic? Of course not. It's a very good, maybe even great Mexican restaurant in suburban Baltimore. Does it offer the Tex/Mex flavors that gringos expect from "authentic Mexican?" Absolutely. Mezcal serves its audience perfectly with the feeling that if they wanted to they could absolutely create "real" Mexican food for the discerning north American palate. Highlights as others have mentioned include the "Holy Guacamole" made tableside, fish tacos, and a mean mojito. Skip the churros - when we tried them they were hard and the over the top ice cream and whipped cream didn't help - and, sad to say, the weak sangria.
(4)Rose M.
Great! Found my new Mexican place! Atmosphere was comfortable and pricing was fair. House Margarita was perfect - Not too strong, yet not all juice either. The chips and salsa were so good! I would suggest some more toppings for the Taco Salad, as there were no veggies at all - Chicken, salsa, very little beans, and iceberg lettuce. It could have been better. I would have liked to have seen black olives, onions and maybe some peppers. I will be back for more.
(4)Rob T.
Let me start by saying the food was pretty darn tasty. The food is the reason they get a 4 and not a 3. We got the guacamole that they make at the table. It was awesome. I got the sampler platter. It was fine but kind of ordinary. My wife got the seafood chimichanga. It was fantastic. Food aside, the wait staff wasn't the best but I've certainly had worse. We felt like we were waiting for everything for so long. Then there's the general atmosphere. It was so loud in there. I couldn't hear my wife talk. If you're looking for an intimate date night, look elsewhere. If you're looking for a lively place, it's pretty good. I think we'll give them another chance sometime.
(4)Casey S.
went to this hidden gem on a late Sunday evening. The whole parking lot was dim, you would barely know that there is anything open. I have eaten here before so i knew there was light at the end of the parking lot. When we were walked in we were greeted by a hostess who immediately seated us at a table of our preference. Within seconds an overflowing basket of goodness known as tortilla chips wth a perfectly portioned side of medium/mild salsa. Our server was polite and courteous as we placed our by the table made house gauac. I Don't think its any fresher when they literally scoop out the avocado in front of you. You are able to choose what accompanies your volcano bowl of amazingness. Servers were on point with refilling beverages and such. I ahd the Mattador steak fajita maddness. I asked for it prepared medium, was a bit overcooked but that might have been because i let it cool down as it was served on a skillet. Either way it was still great. Service was on point! Will most definitly return!
(4)G O.
Love love love this restaurant!!! The California burrito is delicious and the fresh chips and salsa is delightful. The margaritas are really good also. I'd recommend this restaurant if you're looking for good Mexican food.
(5)Karen W.
Love me some Mezcal! First 2 times we ate there we carried out. 1st was fabulous. 2nd not so great but have eaten in SEVERAL times since and no complaints. Love the salsa, Guacamole, and the jalapeño margaritas. Have tried several different dishes and have liked them all.
(4)Minna W.
As confusing as this experience was for my five senses, my boyfriend and I did enjoy our first (and most likely not last!) experience at MezCal. The confusion stems from the very obviously Mexican interior mixed with the very apparent Chinese food aromas left behind by the previous restaurant. Once your senses have adjusted, then you're in for a treat. We were seated promptly at a booth (unfortunately, the booth was a very tight squeeze as the party behind us had shifted their booth back- hence the 4 stars instead of 5) and we were given time to peruse the menu. We enjoyed two generously-sized dinner entrees and enjoyed the chips and salsa before our food arrived. The food was prepared as ordered (which is helpful for picky eaters) and was flavorful. We would like to return to sample some more from their appetizer menu during Happy Hour; I'm eyeing that guacamole!!
(4)Bombshell B.
Everything was GOOD! I had the burrito cancun (it comes with shrimp, scallops, beans, grilled peppers & onions, and it's topped with their queso.....SOOOOOO GOOD) & my friend had the steak fajitas . This is the best Mexican restaurant in this area. I'll be back again!
(4)P M.
Nice decor, spacious, big potion size and of course great quality and taste of food. Good vegetarian and non- alcoholic drink options. Did not expect this place to be so good for the location it is in.
(4)Derek G.
The Owings Mills area desperately needed a Mexican restaurant like Mezcal. There are a few small spots that are good and a Mexican chain restaurant that I wouldn't wish upon my worst enemy, but Mezcal certainly stands out in the crowd after one visit. It's a new restaurant so everything is bright and clean. I didn't sit at the bar, but it certainly looked inviting. The prices are great and there seemed to be a special for every day of the week. I really liked their "Create a Combo" option that lets you customize a plate of the typical Mexican restaurant offerings (burritos, enchiladas, tamales, quesadillas, rice, refritos, etc.). They also get points for complimentary chips and salsa. The guacamole was a bit spicy that day, but worth the price. My go-to Mexican combo is a chicken burrito, cheese enchilada, rice and beans, the basics. Mezcal nailed all four items, so now I feel comfortable trying something different on the next visit. The gf enjoyed her food and tried the White Sangria and nearly ordered another. This could mean either the early stages of alcohol dependency or the drink was really good. I'll choose to go with the latter. The only thing keeping me from giving this place 5 stars is that I've only been once. The service was fantastic and I could easily see myself bringing friends for food and drinks. UPDATE: Originally gave this place 4 stars. Went back over the weekend. It was much busier and we had a larger party. Still, no complaints. The Popeye Pollo did not disappoint and the service was excellent. There was a bit of a wait, but it was Saturday night. The word may be getting out about this place.
(5)Brian D.
This restaurant is way above average. The staff is friendly and engaged, the food is fresh and delicious, and the interior design is original. They even have comfortable seats at the bar (not the normal bar stools).
(5)Kelli B.
Well I was going to give this place a 4, but I came back and I had to knock them down a notch. So we came on a Monday, the day that MLK was being celebrated nationally. We arrived around 1pm, just in time for the lunch menu at most establishments. We were informed that we could not have the lunch menu because it was a holiday!!! That's a little irritating. Just so you know...lunch is only served Monday through Friday 12-4, so if you work a 9-5 Monday through Friday, count on never getting lunch here unless work in the area, which I dont, unless you take the day off. This really grinds my gears as you can tell. Ok, they offer the CoronaRita...it's in a relatively small glass for the price and the guy that made my drink poured some of it into the bar sink...lord forbid I get my money's worth. The food. The food is cool. We sat at the bar and noticed that the complimentary salsa is sitting within almost arms reach of the bar, uncovered. This alarmed me because literally someone from the bar could sneeze right into it. Its a convenient place for the salsa to be for staff, It would just be better if it was covered. Its a great option for Owings Mills. Im thankful to have another option besides Don Pablos, which really wasn't an option. All in all the place is just what the 3 stars said...A=-OK.
(3)Scott M.
Finally! We have ourselves an alternative to your everyday chain "Mexican" restaurants in the Owings Mills area and it does not disappoint. The food was fresh and about as authentic as you'll find north of the border...well, north of Texas, anyway. The complimentary chips were warm and just salty enough....the salsa and guac were super fresh and full of flavor. Overall, our meal was fantastic. The interior space is pretty slick for a strip-mall eatery, but the walls, while quite colorful, could use some artwork to liven the place up a bit. More than anything, though, it needs a presence on Reisterstown Road...if you don't know it is there, you are likely to miss it and that would be a shame. We will be going back, for certain...spread the word....check it out yourself...this is a joint that needs to stick around.
(4)Mark S.
Americanized Mexican food in a strip mall setting. Attractive decor. More California style Mexican food than Tex Mex. But tasty and quite acceptable, possibly the best Mexican food in town. They make their own chips. The salsa was a bit sweet but OK. The sauces and chili gravies tasted right. All in all. a good but not great place for Americanized Mexican food.
(3)Mark G.
This place is a put on, if you have ever eaten good Mexican food then you would know. Had the mole which was essentially a bland sauce drenching chicken pieces that have that fresh from frozen food service food taste. I asked the waiter how they make the margarita and he looked at me with a blank stare. When we devolved the conversation to rum and coke I got a drink where the soda was flat and watery. Don't waste your money on this dreck. Go to Mara Luna's for the Peruvian chicken instead. They are family friendly, I will give them that.
(1)David R.
Love this place! Food is excellent, comes out fast and staff is friendly. Table side guac is cool to watch and tasty
(5)Gordon M.
Great experience tonight. We walked in at 6:15 Sat night immediately got seated. Tried guacamole made at table. Was great. Mecca fajitas were fantastic.
(5)Jason F.
Awesome food. Chips and salsa was good and my Tacos (Beef and Chorizo) were awesome. Wife's fajitas were also very good. Service better then good. They were stopping by every few minutes.
(5)MJ C.
Love this place. The service rocks and the food is even better. The most authentic in the area. The Holy Guacamole alone would bring us back - table made and to Order... YUM. Carnitas Nachos are massive with huge chunks of pork. The chilies rellanos are some of the best I have Ever had and having grown up out west and traveled extensively... I have had them several times. Definitely check it out!!!
(5)Nikki B.
Kudos once again to the gang at Mezcal!!! This is my 4th visit and I am pleased as sangria AGAIN!!! I'm so glad they finally brought a fab Mexican restaurant to this area. For those reviewers who didn't like the food or the service, all your taste is in your wardrobe. I (and company) have now tried the tacos, enchiladas, chili rellenos, burritos, chili con queso, rice, charros, and the chips/salsa only to be completely satisfied with all of it. We also can't wait to come again! Having family that lived in Cali with the finest Mexican food north of the border, I can say with assurance that this place is the real deal! In addition to the fantastic food, they also have great service. Friendly, accommodating, and fast are just some of the reasons the staff at Mezcal deserve praise. Our server tonight was Willi, and he was the best to date! He was very friendly and attentive on a busy night; spending time to make sure we were well cared for and even taking time out to chat. I had the 3 and one combo: a chili relleno and 2 tacos, with a side of charros. Deeee-lish all around. The chili relleno and charros are the best I've ever had! So much flavor. My friend had the 3 and 1 combo as well: a taco, burrito, and enchilada with the chili con queso. Another deee-lish dish. The drinks in the accompanying pic are the Baltimore Margarita (L) and the Sangria (R); both of which are a delight. Highly recommend them. Thank you, Mezcal for another memorable dining experience! See you soon:)
(5)Camille S.
the customer service was great.. the food was authentic.. and the drinks were fabulous!!! will be returning really soon
(4)Jamie H.
Wow!!!! So glad to finally have a good Mexican restaurant nearby. California burrito is huge and so yummy. Tacos are great. Table side guac is a must.
(5)Honest H.
A real find! Tucked away at the far end in the Cherry Valley Shopping Center in Owings Mills, this restaurant has authentic Mexican cooking, generous portions and reasonable prices. They have a full bar with flat screen tvs and happy hour and drink specials every day of the week. Beautiful tile tables and handsome decor add to the pleasant atmosphere. My friend brought me here and said it's her new regular spot because she feels comfortable coming alone as well as with a group. Owner/operator stopped to chat and make us feel welcome - a big plus in my book. We will definitely be back.
(5)Carol E.
Wonderful. Chicken fajita nachos are my new favorite. Not a bad margarita has ever been made. Highly recommend.
(5)Troy H.
Loved this place. Best Mexican that I've had in a while. Service was good and staff was very friendly . Definitely going back
(4)Chitra R.
Hiding neatly within Pikesville, is a total find for my husband and me. Just love the casual setting of the restaurant and yes, good yum food. Must try: Holy Guacamole.
(5)Ar N.
tortilla soup - great flavor, huge avocado salad, lots of avocado, peppers and greens. carnitas chimichanga - fabulous flavor, can't wait to go back!
(5)William M.
We are reluctant transplants from California to the East Coast. It has been a Mexican food desert around here - really, Taco Bell and Chevy's? But this place has become our go to for Mexican food. It is a blessing to have some excellent food and drinks at fairly reasonable prices. The management is attentive, the service can sometimes be spotty. They have missed a few times, but overall they are really trying to make this a good experience. We have been here multiple times, eaten our way around the menu and are truly satisfied that this is our Mexican salvation while we are away from home.
(5)Kiki K.
The atmosphere was wonderful...great decor, nice vibe...but the food was not what I was expecting....I went here because of the great reviews however the food is greasy and doesn't have much of a taste...I love Mexican food but this is by far one of the ones whose food is not good at all...and our server was the worst! It was as if he was overwhelmed and never waited tables before...beware! Food is not what you would expect from a Mexican restaurant. If you want to go here for the bar or the ambiance perfect place, but I would suggest getting food from somewhere else

Convenient Tex-Mex in the Owings Mills area. Went on V-Day about 8pm with my family. There was no wait and the three of us were seated immediately. We were immediately greeted by our waitress. We weren't offered water which would have been nice. We were given complimentary chips and salsa which were ok. .Salsa was a little bland for my taste. We had a pomegranate margarita and a blue margarita (forgot the name) both with a coronita added. The drinks were good. .not too sweet not too tart. The waitress spilled some of the drink on our coats. She apologized and brought wet napkins upon our request to dab it. The holy guacamole was delicious and made at your table so you can select how much or how little of ingredients to add. The chips were also warm and fresh. Entrees- The fajitas with seafood were good. .a little heavy on the onions and light on the peppers but still good. The steak was delicious. We ordered it well done and it was tender and not over cooked. The beans were a little mushy. The kids menu items were good - chicken burrito and hard shell taco were a good size and tasty. Other than a few missteps with the service, the meal was good. $72 total for 3 ppl was pretty good. We also had a 10% off coupon from the valu saver mailer.

Not sure how this place got so highly rated! But honestly if you have EVER had good Mexican food then avoid this place. I honestly would rather eat at Taco Bell, that's how awful this place was. I ordered chicken quesadillas and after one bite I almost threw up. Out entire order was awful and barely edible in my opinion. If it wasn't snowing and a mess outside I would have taken this crap back and gotten a refund. If you want good Mexican food, I suggest you keep looking because you won't get it here.

The food is decent for the price... I have been 3 times now and my most recent repetitive was very unpleasant. I requested a lunch special of build your own combo... being a vegetarian I ordered no meat and specifically said that to the waiter. Halfway through my meal I take a bite out of the beam burrito and found a large chunk of pork. I immediately tell the waiter who takes away the salsa dish where I placed the chunk. He comes up and asks if there is anything else he could do.. could he provide me with another burrito? I told him unfortunately at that point I don't know what else on the plate has been exposed to meat (being a strict vegetarian) and at that point I wanted the meal comped, which he stated was already done. I said I would like another meal to go, since at this point my friend and I were on a tight schedule, to which he responded he thinks he can do that. 15 minutes go by and no meal, no apology from a manager, nothing. We ask for the receipt and leave. The poor customer service to my experiences today is enough for me to not come back anymore. Sorry Mezcal but you handled this very poorly. I am certainly not coming back if you paid me.

This review is for the carryout. I called and placed an order of chicken tacos, holy guacamole and pork carnitas and was told it would be 20 minutes. When I arrived 15 minutes later, I was told the carnitas had just sold out and had to order something else. What? I placed the order over 20 minutes ago, when you had carnitas and now that you just sold out in the past few minutes, my order can't be filled? So, apparently, the ordering person and the kitchen don't talk. Also, the much hyped guacamole had NO taste at all! They needed to add the lime and tomatoes and onions to it to give it some flavor. Instead I received basically a smashed up avocado, bland and no taste. The fish tacos I got to replace the carnitas were tasty and prepared rather quickly after expressing my disappointment with the owner. Though he replaced the order, he did not offer any discount for their mistake and I had to wait for the fish tacos to be cooked while the order food got cold. If your planning on eating here, go and dine in, they weren't busy and obviously they haven't given their carryout the attention it should receive.

The holy guacamole must be ordered. The fajita salad and all of the shrimp meals are excellent. The fish tacos came with corn tortillas, but a very good sweet pepper sauce. We didn't save room for dessert but they looked good.

It's AWESOME ! Real, authentic Mexican food that is delicious as well as unique. The BEST table side Guacamole ever, not to mention the amazing entrees. They obviously have chefs that REALLY know what they're doing. Parking, in the St Thomas Lane Shopping Center is great bc it's off street w/ over 300 parking places. The decor and the ambience is first class and the entire staff is young, friendly and knowledgeable.........definitely 5* service. Can't wait to go back ! Absolutely the best Mexican restaurant and bar anywhere in the Balto. metro area ! Jamison and Kathy 1/19/14

Fantastic, fresh Mexican food and attentive service at reasonable prices. Just what the area needed! The holy guacamole made to order at the table is reason enough to drop by for a bite.

Love! Been here a few times since the opening and have yet to be disappointed. Definitely suggest jalapeño margarita! Delicious! So happy to have a nice homemade Mexican restaurant in the area. I work in an apartment complex nearby and have been suggesting this restaurant to all of my residents. Lots of luck to Mezcal! Hope you stay for a long time!

Went on a Friday late afternoon bout 4:30. It starts to get busy about that time. I had the carnitas taco and it was excellent! The meat tasted homemade. Very good. The refried beans and rice were bland and cold. I figured that's to be expected - most times they are not good no matter where you go. Went with my daughter. The kids meal was plentiful and looked great. She had the chicken tenders and French Fries. My one issue is service was a bit confusing- we had 5 different waiters. Didn't know who to give the check to. Other than that no complaints. Can't wait to go back.

Great place, waited for it to open. The drinks were good, and the whole tilapia is great ! I no longer eat tilapia, but I recommend this place for great Mexican food.

I didn't expect much from this restaurant since it was very new. I was pleasantly surprised. Service was fantastic and the food was great! The Sangria Margarita is delicious.

I liked this place for a number of reasons. First the food, was fresh, delicious and was served in huge portions. Secondly, the wait staff, couldn't have been nicer, no being rushed, and quietly attentive. I hope that they consider adding some live music on a week night. It is definitely a place where you feel happy enough to dance.

Very excited to have this so close to home! Food is fresh and delicious. Only problem is it's so hard to choose, I want one of everything! And the holy guacamole...yum!

UPDATE: I can say that I have gone back a few times now (Ok, three days in a row now, I think I have a problem). I had one not-quite-as-amazing taco, but it was still good. The rest of the time everything has been stellar. It is a casual, friendly place with great food. I think I'm going to be a regular. My son is waving goodbye to the servers now, so that's a pretty good sign.

Amazing! Finally a real Mexican restaurant on the east coast! Those of you who love real authentic Mexican food will appreciate this restaurant! :)

Best authentic Mexican restaurant ever!!!! The food was great, the environment was wonderful !!! The waiter was very helpful, when you need him, he was on point!! Also the manager was great too!! The only thing that they didn't have was a baby changing table , but the manager told me, he has one to install ASAP , do next time I come back they will diffenately have one!!! Great urgency!!' And he reminded me again when we were leaving!!

This place was pretty good! The decor was nice and it was clean. I had the Seafood Chimichanga. The shrimp and scallops inside the fried tortilla was very well seasoned and the white cheese sauce they used over it complimented it very well. I had a Mojito Margarita, it was nice in size but was a little watered down. I also ordered the Queso Con Carne. The cheese sauce was a bit watery and the meat on the salty side, I won't order it again. Overall the experience was good and I am going back!

Food and drinks are always pleasing and the atmosphere is enjoyable. I've been to Mezcal a few times and have mostly enjoyed myself on all visits. I really love the food and when I eat Mexican I must always have a yummy margarita. The only reason I'm not giving them more stars is bc the service always seems to be promising but they slowly fade away. The second time I went the server was slightly rude. There was an error in the food and drink orders and she still charged my group for her mistake. Also, one of the girls I was with didn't like the drink she ordered. Most top of the line restaurants would immediately take it back and bring her a new one free of charge. She did not. She stated that bc she took a drink (Yes it was barely tasted) she must pay for it & the reorder. In my opinion that's ridiculous. Especially for a location that is fairly new. I would assume they would really want to please in order to gain more regulars. After those complaints our water was barely refilled and it took a very long time for the check. One of the next visits the gentleman was extremely attentive and very fast. He just wasn't very social, which is okay bc it allowed for more table chatter and enjoyment. Although I do like to have a friendly server. I will continue to frequent this restaurant bc it is always a nice meal and good Coronita margarita (although the glass could be larger for such a drink- it seems like the Coronita bottle is taking up more space in your glass than the actual margarita). Yet, I must say, If you want to have some solid affordable Mexican cuisine with a casual dining experience I would definitely suggest this restaurant.

Have been to Mezcal three times - and all were consistently perfect. Service, food, price. I tend to really be open minded, but also want a great meal. I got it here. I highly recommend .... the first time we had the quac prepared tableside - well worth it. Next two times, tried other items, the combos are a great deal, and you can taste a lot just with just trying these. I don't always give good reviews, but honest ones. Go. They have a deal in the "Superpack" delivered in our area. Go.

This is a great New Mexican Restaurant in the Owings Mills area. Great food and service. The price is also on par with everything in that area. I had lunch there with my family and every was happy with their meal and I can't wait to try everything on the menu.

I got the fish tacos and since the name is mezcal I expected California like fish tacos, not even close. They were plain bland and dry. Very disappointing, and it wasn't cheap, save your money and go to el paraiso, now that's a Mexican restaurant and it's cheaper

We ate there last night. The food was fantastic and the service was quick. They serve big drinks at reasonable prices. Over all it was a great experience at a reasonable price.

We have visited twice and have not been disappointed. Congratulations on a great opening. Friday night was packed. Word has gotten out and the coupon was in the front of the envelope! Carlos, we enjoyed talking with you and look forward to returning!

Our family moved here from Texas many years ago and we are continuously on the hunt for good Mexican food. Finally, we found it here right in our neighborhood at Mezcal! We had a feeling it was a bit different than your average 'strip center' restaurant when we saw the decor. It started outside with the wagon wheel bench by the front door and continued with the bar stools, the tile tables, the planters, stone bar and finally with the kitchen doors; they are a pair of swinging bar doors right out of the old west. The extensive menu is full of authentic family recipes and what we tasted wonderful. Each dish we tried had a unique flavor and look. The staff was incredibly attentive and friendly. They have a happy hour each evening and daily drink specials and a great bar, too. The owner came by to make sure everything was to our satisfaction and filled us in on the development and planning of his restaurant. We look forward to going back again.

My wife and I stopped in for lunch the other day and it was phenomenal. Great food, big portions (the burrito I got was huge) and very good service. The chips were warm, and the guacamole and salsa was fresh. I've been waiting for an authentic Mexican restaurant in this area and I think I've finally found it. Qdoba and chipolte are ok for a quick lunch, but they definitely leave more to be desired, and let's not even talk about don Pablo's . We will be going back.
